Overview
Hammerite Red Oxide Primer is formulated for use on both bare and rusty iron and steel. It’s a high performance, quick drying primer that provides a smooth protective base for over coating. It can be used on gates, railings, fire surrounds and metal drain pipes to name a few.

Preparation
Always ensure the surface to be treated is clean, dry and free from any dust, dirt, grease, flaking paint or rust.
- Remove loose rust and paint with a wire brush.
- Rub down with coarse abrasive paper to provide a firm surface.
- Abrade bare steel with coarse abrasive paper.
- Degrease all surfaces with and allow to dry.
Application
Before applying Hammerite Red Oxide Primer always test a small area to ensure it adheres to the surface.
- Stir the paint thoroughly and apply with a brush.
- Hammerite recommend applying 2 coats to achieve the best results, allowing 6 hours between coats.
- A topcoat can be applied after a minimum of 6 hours, for best results allow 24 hours.
- Hammerite Red Oxide Primer can be over painted with most paints and is ideal for use with Hammerite metal paint finishes.
