Overview
Water based Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Gloss is part of a paint system that has been specially formulated by Dulux to provide extended protection to exterior wood. If applied correctly it will provide up to 6 years weather protection. The fungicide will inhibit the growth of mould. The coverage is excellent and it stays cleaner for longer. A superior exterior wood paint, it can also be used on primed metal and on plastic.

Preparation
For best results, make sure surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease or wax. It is particularly important to ensure that new surfaces are completely dry.
- Rub down previously painted surfaces thoroughly, using ‘wet flatting’ methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth.
- Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
- Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution.
- Any surface defects should be filled with the appropriate filler.
- Bare Metal - Prime with 1 coat of
- New Joinery - This is often factory primed using a stain base coat, also known as a dual-purpose primer. These materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed.
Application
Note: Always follow the manufacturer's instructions found on the tin. We recommend testing a small area before painting the entire surface to ensure compatibility.
- Stir the paint thoroughly before you begin to ensure even coverage. Apply with a brush only, do not spray.
- Prime all bare wood with 2 coats of , followed by 1 coat of the Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Undercoat, in the most appropriate colour for the job.
- Finish with 2 coats of Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Gloss. Where the colour change is strong, more coats may be needed. Allow at least 2 hours before overcoating Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Undercoat and up to 4 hours before applying a second coat of the Gloss.
- Do not thin, unless painting areas such as plastic rainwater goods, where 1 part water to 10 parts paint can be applied directly to the surface.
