Overview
Dulux Trade Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior High Gloss is the finishing coat of a 3-part weather-resistant paint system. Providing a long-lasting protection, up to 8 years, to exterior trims and woodwork, it has been formulated with a fungicide to prevent mould growth so your finish stays cleaner for longer. The flexible finish is great to accommodate the natural movement of wood. With excellent flow and levelling, this water-based coating delivers a smooth high gloss finish, proven to be as durable as a solvent-based equivalent.

Preparation
Surfaces must be sound, clean, and dry (new surfaces particularly must be fully dry) and free from all defective or poorly adhering material such as dirt, grease or wax.
- Thoroughly rub down previously painted surfaces, using ‘wet flatting’ methods where possible, then wipe off with a damp, lint free cloth. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
- Treat any knots in wood with an appropriate knotting solution. Any surface defects should be filled with the appropriate Polycell Trade Polyfilla.
- Prime any bare metal with 1 coat of Dulux Trade Metalshield Zinc Phosphate Primer.
- When painting areas such as plastic rainwater goods, Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior Gloss can be used. Apply 1 coat of . Followed by 1 coat of Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior High Gloss thinned to 1 part water to 10 parts paint direct to the surface.
- New joinery is often factory primed using a stain basecoat (also called a dual-purpose primer). These materials quickly erode when left exposed and may need to be re-primed.
- Stir thoroughly before use.
- Prime all bare wood with 2 coats of (to be used on softwood only).
- Then apply 2 coats of the appropriate coloured .
- Allow a minimum of 4 hours before overcoating Weathershield Quick Dry Flexible Undercoat.
- Finish with 2 coats of Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior High Gloss. Where a special process colour is to be used or a strong colour change is required, additional coats may be needed (see appropriate Dulux Trade colour card).
- Allow a minimum of 4 hours before applying a second coat of Weathershield Quick Dry Exterior High Gloss.
Application
To get the best results, ensure the surfaces to be painted are sound, clean, and dry. It is recommended to test a small area of the surface to be painted to ensure compatibility and that you are happy with the finished results.
Do not use below 10°C, immediately after rain, fog or frost, or when these conditions are forecast.
